Haphazard Thoughts

We were at Sim Lim Square and Hubby asked if I wanted Wii for my birthday.
"I don't have time to play games lah..".. And so, the hubby bought another (his forth) psp. Ya he is very free, unlike me. Gaa!

There's a reason why I never liked Sim Lim Square. It's saturated with utterly deceitful merchants. We had to make 3 resentful trips to the same shop to "fix" his gadget before it can be used to play games. Kaoz!

Anyway, talk about the coming trip to Bangkok for my first Managerial Conference. So afraid that I'll be trampled to death by the Red Shirts, the venue was changed to Kuala Lumpur.

And the first person to cheer in consent is the father.
The parents have been calling me every other day just to ask, "How now? You still going Bangkok ah? Don't go lah, let other colleague go lor..."
So it's the attitude of "other people die also never mind lah, own daughter must stay alive".

Wahahaa.. as I'm typing, Jamie is stamping up and down mimicking an elephant and singing "yippi yai yai yippi yippi yai...". Upon her demand, I have to play the lion. I wonder why, why lion? Hmm... bye!

Speech-less

The Boss: "You are my motivation to come to work everyday.."
Me: "Huh?!"

And there I was, lost for words, utterly speechless.

Stress

Eddie [looking at Fion's direction]: Er, Jade how's the issue at Buckley?

Instantly, Fion and Jade turned and looked at him..

Fion: My name is Fion.
Jade: Eddie, stop thinking of me.

To Cheer or Not To Cheer

Was feeling ultra "down" over work, the Bosses could have probably sensed something wrong with me (i guess) which most likely explained why they dropped in a few sms of encouragement over the weekend:

EY: "Dont b discourage. Things wil get better. Cheer up"

WS: "Dear Jade, please do not worry as I have thew situation in VizzyCres under control. I have a strategy of getting the FA done and I will be fully behind you. Please cheer up."

It's come to a point where I don't feel like moving ahead anymore. I don't know. And somewhere at the back of my head there's a tiny voice that says "Just do it, it'll be over soon.." but I'm not synchronizing.

Anyway on Sunday, the Hub and his Fabulous friends suggested to have a short outing to Malaysia. And so we drove.. ..

Sad Fact #2

8.45am: Sunday

I'm sitting here again, this time I'm the ONLY one.. in the office.
*Sigh*

Think:"Why does this happen to me?
Why does every moment have to be so hard?"

What's new

Dedicated the entire day to my Director and Contractor just so that we can try our best-est best to agree on the variations in order to settle Vizzycres's final accounts.

Meeting finally ended at 7.30pm and I was already dog-tired. Had to continue working (well that's how miserable my life can be, sometimes).
Just as I was whining under my breath, Eddie popped by.. sounding unusually amiable. For those who do not know, he has this weird aura of politeness whenever he has to break some not-so-wonderful news.

Eddie: "Er.. Jade.. mmm not sure if you heard, they are going to pass the BSW to me."
Jade: (with twisted expressions) "but you are OVERLOADED.. give Cosmas??"
Eddie: "No, they gonna let me run it.. with Susan."
Jade: (even more twisted) "but she's got the big-big Medio project."
Eddie: "Erm.. you see, arrangements are.. when her big project begins, the BSW will be passed to you..
Jade: (blank look) (silence... ...)
Eddie: "Don't worry, by then your Vizzycres final account should be quite done.."

I just can't figure why they are so positive towards Vizzycres these days.. while I'm counting our days.
Anyway, I'm just hoping I won't have to be the one doing the cost estimate all over again.
For all you know, I might just die.

A Talk with the Director

Slogged passed midnight yesterday and it wasn't what I intended. Was preparing to leave but WS walked into the partition before I could turn off my computer and we winded up in a passive-smoker-chatting session.

It was unexpected to hear his comments about our performances at work since our Topic of The Day wasn't exactly about Jade much less, Fion. And of course he described the good things about us lah.. ah-hem!
However a strong sense of plerplexity began to overwhelm me. (appreciated? worried? good? bad?) What happens if I fail him one day? Hmmm, let's skip the bad part... first.

"Fast, prompt, good, know what I want" and "very gan-cheong* about your projects" was his comments on us.
Which I've always thought of Fion being the panicky-near-nervous-breakdown Quantity Surveyor among our midst whenever it comes to her projects.
It goes without saying, knowing what your Bosses want is very very important. Know what Eddie wants or you can jolly well spend your daily lunchbreaks with DT.

So the best part was.. WS is relatively please with Jaslin's work now. Good job Girl.
See? Perseverance does pay off sometimes... at least that's what I observed.

*gan-cheong = anxious

Desperado

Wahaha.. My Coach Sling bag is here.
First day using it.. Kekekekeke!!!

Anyway, our dear ED sms me last night with a reminder to send the following email. (Which I already did so earlier that evening..) See?! He is so forgetful.

Anyways, I drafted something like this:

Dear S---- / Ms T---

Till date, DLX have assessed all of Phase 1 variations, excluding Kxx Lxx and Axx as they have already been allowed for in the Provisional Sums.

We arrived at the sum of $10.5 million vs. GX's $18 million, which includes Kxx Lxx and Axx amounting to almost $5 million. GX's figures (excluding the $5M) should be adjusted to $13M. The variance in cost primarily stemmed from the $2.3M for the structural remeasurement which will be subject to bulk check upon further agreement.

The nett difference [i.e $10.5M (DLX) vs $10.7M (GX)] is considered marginal and we would urge GX to agree with our assessed figure except for the structural remeasurement.

Thanks and Regards
E / Jade
What more can I say.. WE ARE DESPERATE.

i don't like this

Worked till late on weekdays..
Back in the office on weekends..

I'm just not a good Mommy. Jamie must be missing me... ... a lot. It's devastating, really.

And does anybody know?

They don't care if I'm a good mother, because they just want their work done. And it's never gonna end.
Eugene expects us to slog for him.
Eddie expects me to work over the weekends because Cosmas can't and they need the information.

Now that I'm sitting here but where are they??? All alone in the team's parition and away from family.

Depressing.. .. 'nuff said.

搞自壁。。。

搞自壁。。。
搞自壁。。。
搞自壁。。。

Me is don't want to switch on the lights. And our team's corner actually looks quite good in the dimness... Mysterous & obsure...

i'm not here, i'm not here, i'm not here.. nobody can see me.. nobody can see me, nobody can see me... rattling on...

Just minding my own business ambiguously.

Just lonely and hungry... Well, not so actually because Johnson dropped by to say 'Hi' (he wanted to borrow some information) and Dawn's buying lunch for me.. soon...

Morning

It's the 2nd week into 2008, and I did manage to arrive at work before 9am though work starts at 8.45 but admit it, I'm making improvements already.

Let's just see how long this can last before I slip back to waking up at 9am every morning.
However, I hate the fact that tea is only ready after 9.30 which means I'll have to wait.

I CANNOT start work without my tea. And that explains why I am blogging.
Anyway, I received an email from an ex-colleague, containing adorable animal pictures...

Christmas 2007

Team B had our Christmas gift exchange today, like what we did one year ago. But it's a different feeling this Christmas because Sobi is leaving us for India very soon.

Christmas 2006

Christmas 2007

We will miss you, Sobi.

it's the time of the year

The memo on bonus which everyone's been expecting is finally out, and it certainly lives up to our expectations. An utter disappointment.

White envelopes will fly soon, I suppose.

While the other memo on promotion that everyone's been awaiting for is also out.
But it didn't come as a surprise because I was already told.
Can't deny my glee but it just goes to show that I can expect more work to be loaded onto me in exchange for a mere title and a few more bucks.
And for that I'll have part with much of my money in order to invest in a trilogy of treats to my hungry collegues.

Anyway, it is still a good thing.
And congratulations to all others who got promoted as well.

Practical Joke

The boss walked out on the rest of the team at 6pm and especially when he constantly flaunts his artistic talents.. .. .. ..
We can't let it go easily, can we? Well, of course we cannot take it lying down.

I fucking love my job

What exactly is it that you want?

Because of the different ontract period (12 Weeks vs 9 Weeks) the only thing I'm able to do is to adjust the Preliminaries accordingly.

First you ask for me to do a build-up for the Preliminaries rather than using a percentage.
Fine. I did it.

Now you want a percentage of the Preliminaries against the Builder's and M&E works.
Fine. I did it again.

Now I don't know what else you want.
Now, do you realise this is urgent? Do you realise it is MONDAY now?!
Do you realise I have another cost estimate to do for the blardy church and the fcuking tender is calling on the 27th which means there's no block leave for me and there's only ONE JADE trying to please you?!!

First you asked me to check with Daniel, on what was the estimated cost for CapitaLand's standard toilet.
Fine. I checked with him for both Lot 1 Shopper's Mall and JEC accordingly. So, I priced in for the toilets based on the number of sets, just like he did for his estimates.

And now you want me to break them down.
Hello?
I don't know how to do a breakdown especially for CapitaLand's standard form of toilets.
I don't know what Sanitary Wares they're using and nobody knows, yet.
I don't know why Daniel did his pricing in the form sets and you accepted but refused to take in mine.

It's deliberate isn't it?
Thanks for making things so difficult for me. YOU WIN.

And.. with meeting schedules like these.. who will finish my work for me? Huh??

I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job. I FUCKING LOVE IT. My foot.

Time no enough

Meetings meetings meetings... they can last the whole morning / afternoon, and most of the time the entire day.
It is only when I finally return to the office in the evening that I can start to do my work.

This is what I've been going through for the past 2 weeks.
And for the coming months, I think.
So, when you feel that you really have no time to complete your work, you bring it home.

NOT GOOD. NOT GOOD.

Tomorrow is another tedious day
9.30am, meeting with DP Architects till noon probably.
And after lunch at 2pm, meeting Greatearth till evening I suppose.

AND.. It's Friday!!!
cost estimate cost estimate cost estimate..... Just let me die.

just hope

These days, Nepalis not Singaporeans guard some of the city's most senstive sites.

Gurkha soldiers - widely regarded as the most fearsome fighters in the world, are on the frontline of the city-state as Singaopre clamps down on Islamic militancy in the wake of the September 11 attacks in the United States.

The Gurkhas' main strength is their impartiality in the multiracial city-state of four million people.

Not being influenced by the local scene is part of their concept in Singapore. They just don't get emotionally involved in anything they may get caught up with
They are unique here in the sense that the Gurkhas are police officers... While a soldier is perhaps out there to kill people, Gurkhas here are essentially present to maintain the peace, and protect people and property.

Yet, a Gurkha cop is still a Gurkha. According to legend, once his kukri dagger has been drawn in battle, it must "taste blood". If it has not, its master has to cut himself before returning it to its sheath.

Stationed in Singapore on a temporary mission, the Gurkhas do not sink deep roots into the city's soil. They are not allowed to.

The principle of impartiality even forbids them to marry Singaporean women.

So far, only two or three of them have broken the tradition and chosen to stay in Singapore instead of returning to Nepal, one of the world's poorest countries and torn by a six-year-old Maoist rebellion that has claimed some 3500 lives.

********** **********
It is depressing to know that Nepalese are not allowed to stay permanently in Singapore, especially when one of them is your colleague/friend.
It is the feeling of being cast away from a country where you resided for the past 20 years and then they stripped off the opportunity for you to even continue working here.

It is unbelievably harsh.

And deep in our hearts, we know the reason why he would not be allowed but we will not stop trying for a miracle.

Hang in there Sobi. Don't give up yet.

Unconstructive meetings

Like what my Contractor's PM says..

"the construction industry is full of mad people. the architect's mad, the developer's mad, the consultants are mad.. and even my bangladeshi workers are mad.. called me at 8am in the morning screaming that he saw a tiger on site.. ..which Datuk later confirmed that it's just a cat that looked like a tiger.. Xiao ah!!"

Developer: "We request for LCD screens instead of LED inside the lifts"

Lift Contractor: "Yah can. We already submitted the cost of a 10.4" LCD with DVD functions.."

Developer: "Oh no, no, no.. we don't want DVD player.. the LCD is not for playing anything.."

Lift Contractor: "Er.. then?"

Developer: "just show the lift going up / down..??"

ALL: "Xiao ah!"
