Sheares bridge walk

26th August 2007, 5.30am: basement carpark at Marina Square Shopping Centre was FULL. The roads winding Suntec & Marina Square were packed with vehicles and swarms of people walking towards the esplanade.

The annual Singapore Bay Run, consisting of the 21km Army Half Marathon and 12km Sheares Bridge Run.

In disbelief, the threesome completed the 12km Safra Sheares Bridge Run in approximately 2hr 15min, by walking. Ya right, we were expected to run not walk.
But considering that we are all novices in the world of marathons, we only took part with the objective to complete and not to compete. Even walking isn't simple, it was exhausting and every inch my leg muscle is aching right now.

It was a pleasant experience though, recalling how we joked and self-entertained throughout the route.

The course was kinda long..
We began running for about 100 metres from the Esplanande and started our walk to Collyer Quay straight down the road to One Raffles Quay, took an exit to ECP where we continued walking. Passed the IR site and exited via Fort Road and towards Nicoll Highway.. And sprinted the last 250 metres to the Finishing Line.

Went home and slept for 4 straight hours only to wake up for dinner at Mdm Chong's. It was then when I heard on the news that one participant collapsed after finishing the 21km run, somehow didn't make it and died at the hospital. It's a real pity for such mishaps were absolutely unforseen.

On a lighter note, I wouldn't mind participating again next year.
