On the 11th April 2006, I was…
3.30am: Woken up by bad stomach-ache, suspecting it might be labor contractions. Decided to self-monitor the frequency (5min intervals, each contraction lasting about 10sec.) Started pacing around the room & began to pack my bag. Pain score 3/10.
4.30am: Woke The Husband up. Both of us washed up & drove to the hospital.
5.45am: Arrived at KKH and was put under observation. Contraction pain score now 5/10.
6.45am: Waterbag burst. Mid-wife checked, cervix dilated about 4cm. Contraction frequency became more intense. Pain score nearly 7/10.
7.00am: Midwife asked if I wanted epidural or to wait for my gynae to arrive at 7.30am to check my progress. Bravely chose the latter & continued to endure.
7.30am: Midwife came in to tell me that gynae will be a bit late gave me laughing gas (which was useless, didn’t make me laugh at all)... cannot take the pain anymore. Asked for epidural.
8.00am: Anesthetist arrived and was given epidural. I couldn’t see the process ‘coz it was injected into my lower back area. According to The Husband (who witnessed the whole process) described that 3 very long needles were used and a thin wire was inserted into my back. Due to severe contraction pain, I couldn’t feel a thing on my back.
9.00am: Felt the urge to push, told mid-wife who checked my cervix again, almost fully dilated. But baby's head is not low enough. However, she wanted me to push gently as if passing motion, if the urge comes again.
9.30am: Gynae came in and was surprised at my fast progress. He said that I shouldn’t be feeling anything yet because I was still on a full dose of epidural. However, baby's head was already low enough. Opened legs to push...
9.46am: After 4 mighty squeezes, Jamie's out & weighs 2.790kg.
Woo! Load off finally… I was busy sending out sms, The Husband was snapping endlessly at Baby & my Placenta while gynae was busy stitching me up.
Yup, that’s my birth story. Am only able to update it now because Jamie’s been keeping me so busy. Haiz!~
