"Aiyoh.... then drink more water and eat more fruits lor! Yada Yada Yada..." Very commonly heard but it's not helping. Thanks.
Before I was pregnant, I've got my own way of relieving constipation. I will junk on pineapples & watermelons when I have trouble passing. Due to the fact that I'm now pregnant, there are certain fruits which are forbidden (strictly warned by my folks), such as the watermelon, pineapple and banana... What the %^$*? Now I can't even self-help. Duh~ Other fruits just don't work for me and I'm simply not interested.
After consulting my obstetrician, he told me something like this, "During pregnancy, your body will produce a whole lot of female hormones. And these hormones makes your intestine lazy so they can't push your waste effectively. I'll prescribe you with a mild laxative in the form of liquid blah blah blah ...." I never touched that bottle of crap cos it looks too gross to be consumed.
Well, I did my own study though...
Pregnant women may experience constipation, which can be very uncomfortable. This is because the whole digestive system is influenced by hormonal changes during pregnancy.
During pregnancy, the body produces more female hormones than normal. It is the job of these hormones to make sure that the pregnancy develops normally. But they also automatically slow down the woman's intestinal movements. One of these hormones, called progesterone, acts by relaxing muscle. The wall (outside) of the bowel is made of muscle and relaxes, and so is less able to move food and bodily waste along.
What are the signs of constipation?
- More than four days between each bowel movement. (Yes...)
- Faeces are hard, which makes them difficult to pass. (Yes...)
- There is a feeling that not all the faeces are being passed. (Yes...)
- If the faeces are very hard, they may cause bleeding from the rectum. (Yes yes yes...)
- Constipation can also be a cause of lower abdominal pain. (Erm... sometimes but my ass hurts more.)
- In extreme circumstances, a constipated bowel can result in difficulties giving birth. (See this? Let me die, just let me die!!! As if giving birth isn't difficult enough.)
What is the meaning of living when you can eat but can't shit?! Gawd... I'm so F.O.S.

I came to your blog randomly and almost passed it by.... Glad I didn't. I am not pregnant but once was (my son is 3 and daughter 8 mts.) I was also constipated beyond belief. It was horrible. I am assuming you aren't that far along. It did get better in the second trimester for me. I drank some herbal tea that helped move things along. I was told it was safe and didn't have any bad side effects from it. It isn't very tasty. Either way...good luck with the problem.
